Ridley Scott Refines His Vision of 'Blade Runner' →
Reblogged from Thinkpol. It really irritated me that the first DVD release was so basic, hardly worth owning when I already had a VHS copy. It’s one of my all time favs and I just kept waiting for the ‘definitive’ release before buying, especially when the 25th anniversary was about to roll around. Perhaps this is the one. Is Deckard a replicant? In the theatrical release, no....

Well at least the black hats are finding something productive to do with internet porn addiction. See also Melissa Strip. Can’t say I have a lot of sympathy for those abused by the bots. It merely illustrates the stupendous gullibility among web users.

A Liquor of Legend Makes a Comeback - New York... →
Be interesting to try some. A friend smuggled some absinthe from Europe once, and as I recall it was pleasant (it was some time ago, however, and it was not the first drink I’d had that night). But it was certainly low-grade stuff. Dunno if I’m going to have any at those prices, though. That’s a waste of good Scotch money! Here’s a detailed and lengthy SciAm article on...

www.dontclick.it →
Interesting proof-of-concept site for an alternative interface (well, not really alternative as much as modified; it’s still fairly routine mouse action). Not sure if this actually improves anything, though. Even once I get the hang of it I don’t think it will make me more efficient. Perhaps just a step towards the Minority Report computers of the future?

Pinger - mobile messages that talk →
Record a message on your phone that is transcribed to text and messaged to anyone’s phone. Same effect as what you can do with the more full-featured Jott, but simplified for just voice-to-text messaging. EDIT 1/20/08: Actually this ISN’T like Jott. This records a voice message and texts people to notify them of the message. They then call the provided number to listen to the...

Choose (and remember) great passwords →
This technique is a super simplified mental version of the master password hashing done by Passwordmaker. I love Passwordmaker, but it’s portability is limited. I’m finding myself starting to use multiple machines now and having my passwords available all the time has become tricky. I might just go this old fashioned gray matter route.
